Part of the Mercedes-Benz Cars division includes Smart car production as well as subsidiaries, Mercedes-AMG, the high-performance division; Maybach, ultra-luxury versions of models; and Denza, electric cars in China.
Outside of Germany, Mercedes-Benz vehicles are also manufactured in numerous countries, including: Argentina, Egypt, Finland, Mexico, Thailand and the United States.
Mercedes-Benz: A Rich History
Mercedes-Benz founders can be traced back to 1886 when Karl Benz created the first petrol-powered car. Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft created the Mercedes automobile in 1901, named after his daughter. By 1926, Mercedes-Benz was formed with the merging of both Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler’s two companies. The company was renowned for vehicles, buses, trucks, coaches, and more.
The Mercedes-Benz logo, the three pointed star, was registered as a trademark in June 1909 by Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG). The star symbolizes Gottlieb Daimler’s aims for “universal motorization: on land, water and in the air.”
After World War II, Mercedes-Benz rebranded their image and regained economic strength and due to high product demand and sales. The brand became a symbol of success, and by 1955, Mercedes entered the North American market and continued to grow internationally during the 1960s and 1970s.
In the 1980s, Mercedes built the first robotic car with a team of professors from Bundeswehr University Munich and by 1987 launched the Prometheus Project, which was research and design of autonomous cars. When tested on highways, the robotic cars went speeds of 109 mph.
Additionally, Mercedes-Benz has had many technological innovations during the years that have affected the car industry overall. These include brakes on all four wheels, anti-lock brake system (ABS), airbags, brake assist, electronic stability program (ESP), first diesel-powered passenger car and patented a traction control system for both braking and acceleration.
Mercedes-Benz vehicles are categorized by class. For instance, the A-Class is hatchbacks, C-Class is Coupes, G-Class is sports utility vehicles and V-Class is multi purpose vehicles. Popular Mercedes-Benz models include: ML350, S400, GL550, E550 and CL63.
In October 2015, Mercedes-Benz introduced a five-seat, self-driving electric van called Vision Tokyo. Additionally, since the mid 2000s, Mercedes-Benz has focused on producing hybrid-electric cars that are more environmentally friendly.
Formula One & Sponsorships
Mercedes-Benz participates in Formula One, running the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team and is one of the most successful teams in Formula One history.
As for sponsorships, Mercedes-Benz sponsors the Germany National Football Team and the Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart. Additionally, Mercedes holds the naming rights to VfB Stuttgart stadium, the Mercedes-Benz Arena, Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans Louisiana, and the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mercedes-Benz is the epitome of luxury brand vehicles. Therefore, annual rates for insurance, as you might imagine, are going to be higher than regular auto brands, based on Mercedes, cost and quality. Prices will start at approximately $2,100 per year, but depending on the make, model, year, and other factors, can run as much as $3,500, and even more for top luxury models.
For the G-Class series you can expect to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $2,600 per year. For questions about insuring your Mercedes-Benz, contact a United Agencies representative for assistance. Our trained staff is standing by, ready to help.
Mercedes-Benz makes some of the safest cars on the road, and every year, with every new model, Mercedes gets safer and safer. The truth is these cars are built like little tanks! What makes a car safe is prevention, and Mercedes is proactive in this arena, second to none.
The Mercedes-Benz brand is, pretty much, the only brand to offer an anticipatory occupant protection system that activates protective measures for the car’s occupants if there is an imminent risk of an accident. This multi-award-winning technology, known as “Pre-Safe” is fitted as standard in numerous Mercedes model series and has now been further enhanced by Mercedes-Benz.
The intelligent Pre-Safe system takes its lead from nature in that it activates protective measures for the car occupants as a precaution, just as living things react instinctively and search for cover when they are in danger. The aim is to prepare the occupants and the car for an imminent collision so that the seat belts and the airbags can deploy with maximum effect in the event of an impact.
What’s more, Pre-Safe protective measures are reversible: if the accident is averted, the advance tensioning of the seat belts is halted automatically and the occupants are able to reset the positions of the seats and the sunroof. The anticipatory occupant protection system is then ready for action again straightaway.
Pre-Safe can aid in early accident detection, which offers intelligent synergy of active and passive safety. It is linked to their Brake Assist and also their Electronic Stability Program, whose sensors detect potentially critical driving situations and send the relevant information to the electronic control units within a matter of milliseconds. Pre-Safe also uses these sensor data for anticipatory occupant protection.
